I hope that you have all seen or heard the latest news about the arrest of the BNP’s leader in the North East, Ken Booth. Those of you who have read the article about the latest incident maybe surprised at the fact that this man is a primary school governor in the West End of Newcastle. This is clearly an unacceptable situation, to have a holocaust denying Nazi looking after children in what should be a safe environment for them to learn.

We are therefore asking people to write to complain to the school head and chair of the governors Mrs Judy Cowgill and Mr Andy Roberts. You can find the email address for the school and a sample letter on our website at http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://www.uafnortheast.blogspot.com.

Feel free to use or chop and change the letter for your own use. Please do forward this email onto everyone and anyone you know who would be disgusted with the fact that a Nazi is in charge of a local primary school.

Unite Against Fascism Statement on the events in Leigh on Friday 13th March

Last Friday evening, UAF supporters from across the North West organised a protest with local anti-fascists near to the supposed venue of the British National Party’s latest “Battle for Britain” meeting in Leigh, Greater Manchester. As the evening went on the UAF protest numbered 70-plus, including Trade Unionists, students and local people.

The landlord of the proposed venue had in fact cancelled the BNP’s booking, following protests from a range of local people, including bar staff at a nearby pub. Despite the cancellation of the venue, members of the Nazi BNP still arrived with their ‘Battle for Britain’ Land Rover and trailer AND PHYSICALLY ATTACKED THE DEMO. This is now part a of complaint that Unite Against Fascism (UAF) has made to the greater Manchester police . Local people were clearly furious at having the Nazi propaganda-trailer on their street. As well as protesting, several demonstrators took the time to distribute UAF’s ‘Use Your Vote On June 4th’ material to members of the public.

Despite these attempts by the Nazi thugs to intimidate anti-fascists, the protestors succeeded in driving the BNP away. The Nazis were clearly humiliated after their planned big “Battle for Britain” Roadshow ended in a shambles. This follows on the success of anti-fascists stopping the BNP road show in other parts of Britain such as South Gloucester.

The counter-protest on Friday was called by Unite Against Fascism because it is important to show that the BNP are not merely another right-wing political party but are in fact a Nazi Party. This was graphically underlined when Nazi thugs attacked anti-fascists with steel bars and broken anti-fascist placards. Fascism is a movement of violence and as such it tries always to create violence. On Friday, Nazi thugs brought violence onto the streets of Leigh, attacking local people and anti-fascists who objected to their presence.

Our response to the violence of fascism is based on mass action rather than small individual confrontations. We know that the BNP’s racism and fascism is opposed by the vast majority of people and we need to mobilise them against the BNP so that they won’t be able to bring violence to the streets again. That means that mobilising greater numbers of people to actively oppose the Nazis becomes ever more important. UAF emphasises the central importance of mass collective protests to block the BNP whenever they try and take to the streets or hold public meetings. WE seek to build a movement involving everyone against fascism –be they trade unionists, the young and old, community activists and faith groups.

In the run up to the European Elections on June 4th we must continue to build such a movement.

A huge thank you to everyone who turned up to protest and leaflet against the BNP in Sunderland this afternoon. Over 1500 leaflets were given out in under an hour and the 30 or so anti-fascists then marched to St. Thomas Street to find the BNP had pulled their visit! The remaining leaflets were given out before an informal street meeting in which the group agreed to formally launch a Sunderland UAF group with a launch meeting in the City Centre in the coming weeks.

Nick Griffin is still supposed to be speaking on Tyneside tonight but we are unaware of where this will be, if anyone hears of anything please do let us know asap.

We will confirm the detaiils of the Sunderland UAF launch meeting as soon as the venue and time is confirmed

The Nazi BNP Battle of Britain Roadshow coming your way...

Hi to all you anti-fascists.
Just to let you know that the Nazi BNPs 'Battle Of Britain' roadshow is probably coming your way soon. We so far have managed to close down the one in Leigh (see earlier report) and South Gloucester. Alert your local groups, trade unions, colleges that the BNP are coming your way and get organised to stop them. The BNPs events are fundraisers for the European Elections-let's stop them from raising that money! The BOB roadshow is usually preceeded by the NAZI 'Lie Lorry' doing the rounds in the town, followed by a dinner event in the evening at which Fuhrer Griffin speaks at, so keep your eyes open for it.

BNP man facing eviction for racial harrassment

A former BNP candidate is facing the boot from his home following his conviction for racially abusing his German next-door neighbour.

Roy West, 44, directed a torrent of foul-mouthed abuse at Bernd Kugow during the dispute at his home in Glenmore Grove, Dukinfield, in a row over a Union Jack flag. West had tried to attach it to Mr Kugow's shed - and when Mr Kugow objected, West flew into a rage.

West called his neighbour a 'Kraut', swore and and told him go back to 'Krautland'. West, who already had three St George's flags and a Cornish flag in his back garden, also told his neighbour to 'remember Dunkirk'. Unemployed West later made a tearful apology when he went to Mr Kugow's house with a box of chocolates and a handwritten letter.

West, who always denied the allegation, changed his plea at Tameside magistrates' court last month and admitted racial harassment. He was fined £125 and ordered to pay £200 costs and a £15 victim's surcharge.

Landlord New Charter is starting legal proceedings to evict West and his partner Pauline Branson, 48. The housing association said West breached the tenancy agreement after being convicted for causing 'nuisance and annoyance' to his neighbour.

Group chief executive Ian Munro said: "Hate crimes are fortunately rare in our communities. But this was 'wholly unacceptable, vile, offensive and distasteful' - words the judge used in his sentencing. West has used the internet since his conviction to doubt the credibility of his victims and the credibility of the judicial system. We have warned him these actions may constitute harassment and will take injunctive action if these continue."

West and Ms Branson moved to the property in August 2006 after complaining of harassment at their previous home in Hyde, where windows were smashed and he was verbally abused.

New Charter has served a possession notice on tenant Ms Branson. Legal proceedings are due to start on Monday.

West stood as a BNP candidate in last May's local elections in Dukinfield, polling 734 votes and finishing second. After his arrest in October, the BNP leadership complained that he was the victim of a 'malicious prosecution' and tried to organise a demonstration to protest against the arrest. But the protest was called off when West said he wanted the case to remain a private matter.

BNP BATTLE OF BRITAIN ROAD SHOW TAKES A DIRECT HIT!

Nazi BNP Smashed off the streets of Leigh, Greater Manchester

Nazi Nick Griffins' Battle of Britain roadshow took a direct hit tonight (Friday 13th march) on the streets of Leigh, in the North West of England.
BNP members were filming anti-fascists as they turned up for a peaceful victory celebration in Leigh this evening, after finding out that the venue the Nazi BNP had booked for their fundraising dinner in the North West had been cancelled due to pressure from local UAF activists.
We were very unhappy to find we were being filmed and started shouting ''Nazi Scum off our streets'' when suddenly the SS Stormtroopers of the BNP started fighting us. They then decided to drive off but a couple of brave UAF protesters tried to stop them, and by then
our numbers had increased, and all hell broke loose. They suddenly stopped calling us names then, and were unable to put up a fight in any form and their older members suddenly disapeared when the police turned up.
Then some of the local people who had been standing around came and joined the protest, which was by then in a mood of elation. B, a woman who works in the nearby Britannia bar, just opposite the protest came and joined us shouting out anti-fascist slogans. She said she knew the owner of the 'Pure' club that was originally going to host the BNP roadshow and said she had a go at him for allowing them to meet there.
We continued shouting and laughing at the BNP who were in the humiliating position of having to wait for a 'Rescue Truck' to tow away their useless Landrover. The slogans 'the master race you're having a laugh' went down particularly well with us.
Fnally when the rescue truck turned up for them we were over the moon, as they had to struggle to get their trailer hitched to it as they obviously.didn't want to leave it behind. We waved goodbye to them and then left
